Illumination Network Systems GmbH has developed a contrast sensor, which converts image data into control information. The integrated digital signal processor (DSP) processes the sensor data depending on the chosen application: For street lighting on demand, for instance, we designed software that is able to detect the type, speed and direction of traffic. This enables anticipatory control of illumination and, in conjunction with the interconnection of the luminous sources, is imperceptible to road users. The energy consumption of the sensor in this application is less than 2 Watts.

For other applications, the sensors can be equipped with suitable software. They are available as open source development systems for third party suppliers and can be provided with interfaces for building automation systems.
